Multiplication Tables

Several weeks ago, I sent home a packet of multiplication flash cards.  I told the students that we would be getting to multiplication and that they would need to begin learning multiplication facts.  Last year, the students did not get very far into multiplication; however, our new Math Standards that were adopted this summer by the Kentucky Department of Education require that third graders enter third grade knowing multiplication facts.  This isn't because we didn't teach what we were supposed to teach last year, but rather it is a result of beginning a new math program that is not consistent with our old program.  Therefore, our students need to really work on their multiplication facts now!

If your child no longer has the flashcard packet, ready-made ones are available at stores such as Walmart and various dollar stores. There are also internet sites that help review and quiz students. Some of them are:
http://www.aplusmath.com/Flashcards/index.html
http://www.printable-flash-cards.com/flash-cards/multiplication-flash-cards/

Please take a few minutes each night to work on these with your child.
